| The Track Geometry Inspection Vehicle (TGIV) is a self propelled rail bound vehicle that measures both track geometry and catenary. Staffed by a three-man crew consisting of two vehicle operators and one computer system operator, the TGIV records track geometry measurements every foot at up to 50 mph. It utilizes a non-contact system which combines accelerometers, gyroscopes, lasers and cameras to provide information on track conditions. Data gathered by the TGIV is displayed in real time in three different forms on board. The vehicle is also equipped with video system, two cameras at each end of the unit, and one on top that record right-of-way conditions. |
