Back

The Harsco Track Technologies Model PGM-48 Production Grinder is composed of three grinding cars, two powered, and one idler car. Each car has two grinding buggies holding eight electrically driven grinding motors for a total of 48 motors. The Model PGM-48 is designed to resurface mainline track and to remove corrugations and other surface defects thereby producing optimum running profiles on the rails. The unit is fully self-contained with its own power plant, drive system, operator controls, computerized grinding control systems, fire control system and living quarters for up to 8 people. This machine incorporates the newest and most advanced grinding system technology available.

Control features are based on a state-of-the-art system of multiple computers which not only control all grinding functions, but also monitor and control all the working functions of this sophisticated machine. The control system makes it possible for one operator to control all grinding functions in either direction at speeds up to a maximum of 24 Kph.

Control cabins at both the front and rear of the machine enable work and travel to be accomplished from either end. The cabins are sound dampened and insulated for protection of systems and operator comfort, and are fully air-conditioned and pressurized. Tinted safety glass in all windows provides a panoramic view of all adjacent track areas. Ergonomically designed, fully padded and adjustable seats provide maximum comfort and easy access to controls.

The PGM "Magnum" series grinder is also available in models with 16 or 32 grinding stones. Other available options include a transverse rail profile measuring system and a rail corrugation measuring system.
