Mark IV Production/Switch Tamper

Back

Today's Mark IV Tamper is a high tech, refined machine known for top quality production and switch tamping and transit system work.

The Mark IV is available with Harsco Track Technologies' new System-V tamping control system. System-V replaces the two computers and software systems, on previous machines using FLICS (Fast Light Industrial Control System) and Compu-Liner. This results in a more capable and feature-rich system, while at the same time being simpler and more reliable.

A single, industrial duty 68030 computing system directly controls the machine during work mode and provides primary operator control through arm panel keypads, joysticks, keyboard and a graphical interface. It is also responsible for the lining system and provides the means of measuring, recording, analyzing and lining curves.

While today's Mark IV features many new improvements, there's one thing that remains constant-the high quality track behind a Harsco Track Technologies machine. Quality that comes from the superior ballast compaction of positive displacement vibrators and uniform tamping depth.

Quality that comes from the cross level and superelevation accuracy of the Surfacing System.Quality that comes from the precise, accurate, easy-to-use System-V control system. Quality that comes from attention to detail-like the adjustable sliding rear axle that can be positioned to do the best job.

The Harsco Track Technologies™ Mark IV-Added value through product improvement.

Features and Benefits

  • Advanced System-V control system delivers accurate, repeatable results and effective operator interface for computer-controlled automatic ramping, superelevation, zeroing of references and continuous crosslevel monitoring.
  • Easy to use control system software monitors each circuit status "behind the scenes" and reports errors when they occur.
  • Adjustable wheelbase improves the stability of the ties already tamped with rear axle close to workhead and improves lifting capability in switches and turnouts when extended.

MAIN FRAME - High-strength steel, boxed beam, welded construction.

WHEELS & AXLES -30-in. (762-mm) cast steel (AAR Profile) wheels on solid forged steel axles.

SUSPENSION - Trunion-mounted front axle and fixed rear axle with elastomer shock pads at each wheel.

BRAKES - Air-operated tread-type shoe brakes with cobra-type shoes on all four wheels. Spring-applied, air-released, parking/emergency brake for automatic brake actuation in case of air pressure loss.

DRIVE TRAIN - Full-time 4-wheel drive with on-the-go upshift/downshift capability, two-speed traction motor.

ENGINE - Cummins 6CTA 8.3 turbocharged and aftercooled Diesel, 200-hp (164-kW) @ 1,800-rpm.

HYDRAULIC SYSTEM - Variable displacement piston pumps, fixed displacement gear pumps, 24-VDC valves.

AIR SYSTEM - 21 -CFM (594-l/m) engine-driven compressor, 100-psi (689.5-kpa) operating pressure.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - 24-VDC system with 175-A alternator.

CAB - Large rear entry, fully-enclosed and climatized cab with air bag suspension. Accessible from either side of machine via a rear platform equipped with conventional stair-type steps. Provides operator with excellent visibility while working or traveling. Includes acrylic windows, windshield wipers, heater, defroster; air conditioning, and interior lighting. All controls are within easy reach of the operator.

CONTROLS - All working functions are under control of a Motorola 68030 computer based control system with interactive operator interface.

LINING SYSTEM - Harsco Track Technologies™ System-V provides automatic calculation of best geometry of curves and display on the CRT based on actual track measurement data.
Optional Lining Systems: LineLite and Laser Alignment System.

TAMPING UNITS - Four heavy-duty vibrators drive 16 abrasion-resistant tamping tools. The hydraulically-driven vibrators operate at 3,000-V.P.M. (50-Hz) and develop a positive displacement of 3/8-in. (9.5-mm) Traversing workheads tamp entire switch area.

LEVELING SYSTEM - System V with automatic ramp-in and ramp-out capabilities and automatic correction on lift. Automatic ramp-in and ramp-out of super elevation.

COMBO CLAMP LIFT SYSTEM - Single rail clamp lifts from the ball of rail during production work or from the base of the rail where required in switches.
